Symetri is an iPhone app. It will run on iPad in compatibility mode, but the UI is designed for iPhone portrait orientation and is not optimized for iPad use.

Optimizing Performance

Keep the device cool

iPhones throttle the processor when they overheat. Remove the case during intensive operations, avoid direct sunlight, and give the device a 5-minute break between large batch exports.

Keep battery above 20%

iOS activates Low Power Mode at 20%, throttling the CPU and GPU. Keep the device plugged in during batch exports.

Close background apps before large exports

Double-press the Home button (or swipe up and hold) and swipe away apps you don’t need. This frees RAM for image processing.

Restart weekly

For devices used heavily in a clinical setting, a weekly restart clears accumulated memory and keeps the system running cleanly.

Camera Recommendations

Use the 1× Main Lens

The 1× lens produces the least distortion and is most consistent across iPhone models. It’s the default when you open the Camera app.

Avoid:

• 0.5× ultrawide — barrel distortion warps facial proportions and confuses face detection
• Digital zoom — degrades image quality; face detection requires sharp, clear images
• Portrait mode — applies a software depth effect that can interfere with background segmentation

Resolution Setting

On iPhone 14 Pro and later, you can shoot in 48MP or 12MP. Symetri processes images at 2048px for alignment — 12MP is recommended for faster imports with identical alignment quality.

To set: Settings → Camera → Formats → choose High Efficiency (12MP default).

Checking Available Storage

1. Go to Settings → General → iPhone Storage.
2. Scroll to find Symetri in the app list to see exactly how much it’s using.

If Symetri is using more storage than expected, close and reopen the app. Temporary export files are cleaned up on launch.

Keeping Symetri Up to Date

Always keep both iOS and Symetri updated. Symetri’s face detection and background removal features use iOS’s built-in Vision framework — Apple improves this with each iOS release.

Before any major iOS update, back up your device via iCloud or Mac first. Symetri data is included in iPhone backups.
